OncoNext® Risk Genetic Cancer

At Miracle Inside Diagnostic Scan Clinic in Leeds, we offer access to OncoNext® Risk genetic testing, a blood-based hereditary cancer risk test designed to identify inherited gene changes that may increase a person’s lifetime risk of developing certain cancers.

Hereditary Cancer Risk Genetic Testing

This test looks for germline mutations — inherited genetic changes present in all cells of the body, which may be passed down through families.

OncoNext® Risk is suitable for people who want to understand better their inherited cancer risk, especially where there is a family history of early-onset cancer, multiple cancers in the same family, or known hereditary cancer syndromes.

OncoNext® Risk Genetic Cancer Testing – Leeds

1 in 2 People Will Develop Cancer in Their Lifetime

Half of the UK population born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Alarmingly, nearly 50% are diagnosed after the cancer has already spread. Understanding your genome allows you to make proactive lifestyle and environmental changes to reduce your risk of developing cancers you may be genetically predisposed to.

At a Glance

  • 1 Blood Sample
  • 80 Gene Mutations Screened
  • 10 Types of Cancer Screened
  • Pre- and Post-Test Consultation Included

Why Choose OncoNext®?

Genes play a critical role in disease occurrence, and understanding your genome takes proactive healthcare to the next level. Most people carry inherited genetic mutations that increase their risk for certain cancers and diseases. While we cannot change our DNA, we can change our environment and lifestyle.

By knowing your genetic predisposition, OncoNext® empowers you to make informed decisions to reduce your cancer risk, through targeted lifestyle modifications and preventive care.

How Does OncoNext® Work?

Hereditary cancers often involve germline mutations – inherited changes in a gene that may increase cancer risk.

  • Carrying a germline mutation does not guarantee cancer, but it lowers the threshold for environmental and lifestyle factors to trigger mutations in these genes.
  • OncoNext® identifies these germline mutations, enabling you to modify lifestyle and environmental risks such as nutrition, smoking, sunlight exposure, and certain medications.

With OncoNext®, you can take control of your health, making proactive choices to reduce the likelihood of developing genetically predisposed cancers.

What Is OncoNext® Risk?

OncoNext® Risk is a genetic test that analyses selected cancer-related genes using advanced molecular testing.

The test focuses on genes involved in:

  • DNA repair
  • Tumour suppression
  • Cell growth control
  • Apoptosis regulation

Changes in these genes may increase susceptibility to specific types of cancer.

This is not a test to diagnose active cancer. It is designed to assess whether you carry inherited genetic variants that may increase your future risk.

Who Should Consider This Test?

This test may be suitable if you:

  • Have a family history of cancer at a young age
  • Have multiple relatives affected by cancer
  • Have more than one cancer type in the family
  • Have a known genetic mutation in the family
  • Want to understand your inherited cancer risk
  • Have been advised to consider genetic testing by a healthcare professional

Sample, Turnaround Time and Price

  • Sample type: 10 mL EDTA blood sample
  • Turnaround time: Approximately 15–30 working days from lab receipt, depending on panel
  • Targeted panel price: From approximately £600
  • Complete panel price: From approximately £700–£995
  • Prices exclude shipping and handling where applicable

What Does a Positive Result Mean?

A positive result means a hereditary gene mutation has been detected.

This does not mean you currently have cancer, and it does not mean you will definitely develop cancer.

It may mean you have a higher inherited risk compared with the general population. This can help guide:

  • Earlier screening
  • More frequent surveillance
  • Lifestyle risk reduction
  • Referral to a genetic specialist
  • Family cascade testing
  • Preventive healthcare discussions

What Does a Negative Result Mean?

A negative result means no reportable mutation was found in the genes tested.

However, this does not completely remove cancer risk. Cancer can still occur due to non-inherited factors, lifestyle, environment, ageing or gene changes not covered by the test.

FAQs

Is OncoNext® Risk a cancer diagnosis test?

No. OncoNext® Risk is not designed to diagnose active cancer. It checks for inherited genetic mutations that may increase lifetime cancer risk.

Is this test done from blood?

Yes. The test requires a blood sample, usually collected in an EDTA tube.

How much blood is needed?

Approximately 10 mL of blood is usually required.

How long do results take?

Results usually take around 15–30 working days from when the laboratory receives the sample.

Do I only need to take this test once?

Yes. Germline DNA does not usually change over time, so hereditary cancer risk testing is generally a one-time test.

Does a positive result mean I will get cancer?

No. A positive result means you may have an increased inherited risk, but it does not mean cancer is certain.

Does a negative result mean I will never get cancer?

No. A negative result does not remove all cancer risk. It only means no reportable mutation was found in the genes tested.

Which cancers can be assessed?

Panels are available for breast, ovarian, uterine, colon, gastric, pancreatic, prostate, melanoma, renal, cerebral tumours, thyroid-related risk and other hereditary cancer groups.

Is BRCA testing included?

BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing is available either as a focused BRCA panel or as part of wider hereditary cancer panels.

Should I speak to a healthcare professional before testing?

Yes. Genetic testing can have implications for you and your relatives, so pre- and post-test counselling or healthcare professional discussion is strongly recommended.
